Bakery’s Plans For Growth

A planning application has been submitted to convert a vacant store in Onchan into a bakery.

The proposal, submitted by Andrea and Matt Hollis, seeks to change the use of at 26a Summerhill Road, from retail (dog grooming) to retail and production for their growing business, “Miss Maple” bakery.

Currently operating from their home kitchen, the couple highlighted the need for a dedicated space due to increasing demand.

“With volume of bakery items increasing, along with amount of ingredients and packaging required to be stored, there is now a much-needed requirement to have a dedicated production space,” their agent, Dawn Winn of Digit Isle Designs, stated in the cover letter.

The bakery will primarily focus on production, not with a direct retail element, with occasional “pop-up” events for direct sales.

“There are plans for this space to be utilised for hosting one-off, small scale events, such as perhaps a monthly ‘pop-up’ day where the public can drop in to buy bakery items,” the letter added.

The site, previously a hair salon and later a dog grooming business, has been vacant for nearly two years.
