Ballakermeen High School has claimed the top spot at this year’s One World Charity Challenge, earning £1,500 for Disability Africa.
It followed a lively presentation on the charity’s playschemes and their impact on disabled children in low‑income communities.
Eight finalist teams performed at Babbage’s, Mountain View Innovation Centre, before an audience including the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister.
In total, 33 Year 12 teams took part across all six secondary schools.
One World Challenge
Castle Rushen High School finished second, securing £1,250 for Leprosy Mission (Isle of Man) plus a £500 AFD Advocacy award. Queen Elizabeth II High School placed third, winning £1,000 for International Health Partners.
A second Ballakermeen team won the top AFD Advocacy Award worth £1,000, along with £500 in the main competition, for their work with Coral & Pearl Hostels Trust.
Runners‑up from St Ninian’s High School and Ramsey Grammar School each received £500 for their chosen charities, with Education Saves Lives also receiving an additional £500 advocacy prize.
One World Centre Coordinator Wendy Shimmin praised the students’ commitment and the skills developed through the programme, which marks its 20th anniversary next academic year.
