Here is your Saturday morning reminder that there is a three day road closure in place from Ballig to Cronk-Y-Voddy for resurfacing and other works.
The work started yesterday (April 12) between Ballig Bridge, near Ballacraine, and Cronk-Y-Voddy Crossroads to through traffic
The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) is closing the road to is to facilitate carriageway resurfacing and other maintenance works.
Road closure
The closure is in place until 6pm tomorrow (April 14) and is to allow the following works to take place:
Resurfacing on Creg Willy’s Hill, north of Glen Helen
- Two sections of Creg Willy’s Hill are to be fully resurfaced, firstly up from Glen Helen and a further section in the vicinity of Sarah’s Cottage.
Resurfacing at Ballig Bridge
- During the same three day period a second paver team will resurface the north bound lane at Ballig Bridge. Currently this area has a temporary surface following recent drainage improvement works.
Miscellaneous works between Ballig and Sarah’s Cottage
While these restrictions are in place there will be teams on site between Ballig Bridge and Glen Helen undertaking a number of tasks including
• Ditching
• clearing drains
• patch repairs to road surface defects
• Line painting
• Undertaking various preparative works relating to the upcoming road racing
Access
Usually these additional works are done over an extended period on open roads under traffic lights.
The DOI say that by doing this work at the same time that the road is closed for resurfacing means that it can be done more quickly and safely, and with less overall disruption to the general public.
Access for residents, and to the businesses at Glen Helen:
• Access to The Lodge Restaurant and Glen Helen Glamping and all dwellings between Ballig and Glen Helen will be maintained under local traffic management arrangements from the direction of Ballacraine and Peel, via Ballig Bridge.
• Access for dwellings between Sarah’s Cottage and Cronk-Y -Voddy will be maintained from Cronk- Y-Voddy Crossroads to the north of the closure
.• There will be no access between Glen Helen and Sarah’s Cottage at any time during the works.
Diversion route
• Through traffic will follow a signed diversion route from the north via Douglas Road Corner, Kirk Michael to the Peel Coast Road, onto Peel and then to Ballig via the Poortown Road. Traffic from Ballacraine heading north will be diverted using the same route but in reverse.
• A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place on the Ballabooie Road (between Cronk Y Voddy and the Peel Coast Road). This route is not suitable for HGV traffic and is recommended for local traffic only.
• Bus services will be subject to diversions. Bus Vannin will publish amendments to its service in due course.
