Bank Won’t Accept it’s Own Bank Statements

Isle of Man Bank will not accept its own bank statements as proof of address for its own services.

The changes mean that Isle of Man Bank customers cannot use their Isle of Man Bank statement as proof of address when wanting to use Isle of Man Bank services, such as organising an overdraft.

The bank will also not accept Natwest or RBS bank statements as proof of address.

When asked why these changes have taken place, an Isle of Man Bank employee told a customer “I don’t know”.

Not Our Statements

Isle of Man Bank uses “Mitek” which it says helps it quickly verify identity using document checks and biometric technology.

However, this system does not inform customers that Isle of Man Bank’s own bank statements are not valid for proof of address.

The Isle of Man Bank website says “We are unable to accept e-statements from our branch or mobile telephone bills for address verification”.

Manx.News understands that this is not a regulation purely isolated to Isle of Man Bank, and that Nationwide Building Society, Bank of Ireland UK and Barclays also operate the same regulations.
