Big Increase in Community Care Spending

The annual cost of community-based care provided or commissioned by Manx Care has risen by nearly £32 million since 2021/22.

Data released by Health Minister Claire Christian shows expenditure for services outside hospital settings reached £160.7 million in the last financial year, up from £128.8 million in 2021/22.

The largest area of spending remains Community Health Services, including GPs, dentistry and community nursing, at £66.7 million in 2024/25.

Costs for Mental Health Services and Learning Disability Services also saw significant increases, reaching £30.8 million and £22.7 million respectively.

Excluded

The figures, provided in response to a Tynwald question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge, are described as “net costs” after income such as client contributions.

The DHSC notes the data “do not represent a complete service-level costing” and exclude corporate overheads and some separately funded programmes.

Spending on placements in residential homes exceeded £10 million last year, while domiciliary care costs were £3.4 million.
