Rushen United pulled off a big 1-3 win at Andreas on Saturday to all but knock Ayre United out of the title race.
Defeat, plus the western’s win over Union Mills, leaves Ayre nine points behind Peel with just one game in hand.
With the game 0-0 at halftime, Rushen took the lead in the 52nd minute through Cameron Dudley before Chris Curtis levelled just moments later.
Ayre failed to kick on from there with Jamie Cadwallader restoring the Spaniard’s lead in the 61st minute, with Aaron Hawley wrapping up the three points in the 67th minute.
Over in Peel, it took Tommy Brown just five minutes to find his scoring boots as he scored his first of five goals against Union Mills.
With his hat trick complete inside 20 minutes and a fourth added before half time he set Peel on their way to leas 4-1 at the break.
With fewer goals in a calmer second half, Paul Whitehead scored in the 53rd minute before Brown added another just before the hour.
