Bishop vote consultation to close today

Legislative Buildings, Isle of Man

People have until midday to have their say on whether the Bishop’s vote should be removed.

The eight-week consultation follows the successful second reading of Lawrie Hooper’s private member’s bill to remove the bishop’s vote last December.

The bill would remove the bishop’s right to vote but would permit him to lead prayers at the beginnings of parliamentary sessions and to speak on issues before the Council.

The consultation will close at midday (Thursday).

A report on the findings of the consultation will be submitted to the House of Keys before any further developments.
