Bone Cement Supply Secured

Manx Care says hip and knee replacement operations will continue as normal after concerns over a potential shortage of bone cement were resolved.

The organisation had been monitoring the situation in the UK after a major manufacturer suspended production for at least two months, raising the risk of a wider UK and European shortage.

While Manx Care does not buy from the affected supplier, any disruption could have led to bone cement being prioritised for emergency cases, potentially affecting planned orthopaedic procedures both on-island and in UK partner hospitals.

Manx Care has now confirmed that the NHS has secured an alternative supply from another manufacturer, ensuring continuity of care for patients awaiting joint replacement surgery.

The organisation says it will continue to monitor the situation and issue further updates if anything changes.
