The Manx Breast Clinic has announced an unexpected disruption to its services due to the emergency absence of a key breast radiologist.
Due to this, the post is expected to remain unfilled for at least four weeks.
In a statement, the clinic said: “We had anticipated that we would have our Breast Radiologist in place at this time, but due to an emergency short-term absence, we will not have this important member of the team in place for at least the next four weeks.”
The clinic emphasised the critical role of breast radiologists in patient care, stating: “Our service will be severely impacted by this staffing disruption.”
Recruitment
Recruitment challenges have compounded the issue, with the clinic highlighting the Island’s isolation compared to the UK. “There is already a significant shortage of available Breast Radiologists within the UK.
“We are very isolated on the island… which makes it even harder for us to recruit someone suitable at short notice.”
Temporary locum cover has been arranged, but the clinic warned: “Systems will not be running as smoothly as we had hoped over the coming weeks.”
All affected patients have been contacted, and those requiring ultrasound scans will be seen within 10 days. The clinic added: “We are committed to finding a sustainable solution and will provide weekly updates.”
