Unite the Union has confirmed that Bus Vannin drivers have given a clear and decisive mandate for industrial action.
The industrial actions follows union members ongoing dispute over pay, conditions and proposed changes to long-standing entitlements.
Drivers have expressed strong opposition to the employer’s proposals, which include reductions in established allowances and alterations to terms that members rely on.
Unite the Union says that “the result of the ballot demonstrates a high level of frustration across the workforce and a willingness to take industrial action if needed”.
A Very Clear Message
Unite Regional Officer Debbie Halsall said: “Our members have sent a very clear message. Bus Vannin drivers will not accept being pushed backwards on pay and conditions, and they have now given Unite a strong mandate to act.
“These drivers carry huge responsibility every day, and they deserve to be treated fairly and with respect.
“We urge the employer and the Department to return to the table with a meaningful, authorised offer that addresses the issues drivers have been raising repeatedly.”
Unite will now move into the statutory notification phase. Dates for industrial action will be confirmed if negotiations fail to produce an acceptable settlement.
