The proposal to relocate Bushys Brewery to Castletown, into what is currently Town’s works yard, is set to be determined by the planning committee on Monday, April 8.
According to Castletown Commissioners, the application has been recommended for approval by the case officer.
The local authority says that ‘regardless of the planning application’s outcome and the subsequent petition process to repurpose or dispose of the yard, the welfare facilities for the town’s workforce will be temporarily relocated to the Town Hall in the near future, with the Fire station being utilised for equipment’.
Castletown
The Commissioners says that the current welfare facilities are housed in an aging Portakabin intended as a temporary solution over 15 years ago, fail to meet modern standards.
As a result, the Town Hall, previously utilised as a welfare facility during the Covid-19 pandemic, is deemed the preferred short term option to minimise while the future of the existing yard is determined.
It appreciates that this will have an impact on hall use, and while it has not taken any long-term bookings this year owing to the potential use of the hall for the Commissioners own needs, the hall has remained available for use. There have been 6 ad hoc bookings to date this year.
