Busiest Year Ever for MIRS

The Manx Industrial Relations Service dealt with nearly 12,800 enquiries during 2024-25, the highest figure the organisation has recorded.

The body, which provides independent advice on employment rights, saw 12,797 enquiries in the 12 months to March 2025.

This represents the third consecutive yearly increase.

Dismissal-related enquiries accounted for the largest share at 4,290, followed by pay and deductions at 1,859 and redundancy at 1,655. Employees made 6,915 of the enquiries, with employers responsible for 5,882.

Conciliation

During the year, 40 Employment and Equality Tribunal complaints were settled through MIRS conciliation, with a further 10 complaints withdrawn.

Kimberley Emery, who was appointed as permanent Industrial Relations Officer in January 2025, said: “Despite having its busiest year in terms of the level of enquiries, I believe the MIRS rose to the challenge and based on the feedback above and the corresponding statistics, the MIRS maintained both its quality of service and surpassed the quantity of conciliated matters from the previous reporting year.”
