Busy First Sitting of 2025

Tynwald sits for the first time this year with hefty question and order papers to get through.

There are 23 questions and 27 motions, reports and other items listed on the agenda.

Kicking off with questions, the honour of opening up the bowling for the back benches goes to Jason Moorhouse (Arbory, Castletown and Malew) as he asks the Treasury Minister what assessment has been undertaken by the FSA in the last nine months on basic bank accounts for those with a poor credit score; and what requirements are in place on institutions to provide such.

From there Speaker Juan Watterson will ask the Enterprise Minister about regeneration scheme and Lawrie Hooper (Lib Vannin, Ramsey) will ask his successor at health what progress has been made with the Cummal Mooar capital scheme?

The final starred question goes to Julie Edge (Onchan), who will focus her famous leg spinners on the health minister when she asks about the looming doctors’ strike.

Questions

Further down the list John Wannenburgh (Douglas North) asks about Manx Sea Transport Guernsey Limited, which employs Steam Packet crews, there are also questions about the Steam Packet limiting how many kids can travel with adults, which has been criticised for its potential impact on schools.
