Can’t Pay? They Won’t Take it Away

Taking appliances to the Eastern civic amenity site has become more expensive this morning after another wave of increased costs hit islanders.

The new contract for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations items have led to even higher charges to dispose.

With the increase, some say this will just lead to more fly tipping.

Douglas Council said: “Having received notification from Government regarding the new Contract to collect WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations) items.

“Please note the following new charges for disposing of ‘hazardous WEEE at the Civic Amenity Site’ from January 2 2025.”

New charge at Eastern CA site:

Standard fridge £53
Medium Fridge £71
Large fridge £128
Television £23
PC Monitor £14
Cost per laptop £14
Condensing/washer/dryer £53

Cooker/range/double oven £35
Cooker (free standing) £27
Cooker (built in) £27
Cooker (mini) £18
