Captain of the Parish of Lonan, Stephen Carter will open the 2024 Beer and Cider Festival on April 11.
He will perform the official opening ceremony at this year’s beer & cider festival, which will include pouring the first pint of festival ale that has been specially brewed for the occasion by Okell’s brewery.
The beer is to be called “S.O.S” and a donation from each pint sold will be given to the RNLI., this year’s festival charity which is celebrating its bicentennial year.
The “Star Shanty Singers” will also be performing with a selection of their uproarious sea shanties.
The festival takes place from April 11 to 13 in the Villa Marina’s Royal Hall, featuring more than 150 real ales, ciders, perries and fruit wines.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from the VillaGaiety box office, the Welcome Centre at the sea terminal or on the door subject to availability.

Captain Carter was the Harbour Pilot for thirty years and recently published his memoirs from over the years, Pirate to Pilot.
Commenting to Manx.News on the release of his book, Captain Carter said he has been writing the book for a couple of years and thought that when he retired as pilot, after nearly 30 years, would be a good point to finish it.
In 1962 at just 11 years old Captain Carter purchased his first boat and since has spent most of his life at sea. In 1978 he set up Laxey Towing Company, which he stills runs to this day.
“There have been many interesting and satisfying moments during my career, we have been involved in just about every major civil engineering project in Douglas Harbour for the past 45 years as well as many difficult salvage operations which have been successfully completed, and many amusing anecdotes,” Carter said.
