Douglas City Council has outlined the reasons behind new charges for enhanced webcasting and media services at the Crematorium, following a major upgrade to its ageing technology.
The previous system offered only a basic livestream with limited features and poor audio, which often failed to capture readings, tributes and eulogies clearly.
The Council says the new platform delivers a far higher standard, ensuring relatives who cannot attend in person can still take part in the service.
The upgraded system now supports live webcasting, professional recordings and visual tributes such as photo montages and memorial presentations, giving families more ways to personalise ceremonies and share memories with loved ones on and off the island.
Charges have been introduced to cover the cost of the specialist equipment, software, secure hosting and technical support required to run the service.
These elements are provided by an external company to ensure broadcasts are reliable and appropriate for the occasion.
The Council says it remains committed to high‑quality bereavement services and will continue to review fees to ensure they remain fair and sustainable.
