Breast Cancer Now has issued an apology after concerns were raised about its recent face-to-face fundraising efforts outside stores across the Isle of Man.
The charity confirmed the campaign was legitimate but acknowledged distress caused to its local volunteer group, which was unaware of the initiative.
In a statement, Rachael Franklin, Director of Fundraising, Communications and Engagement, said: “We want to assure you that the fundraisers you have seen in the Isle of Man over the last week have been through rigorous training, and it is a genuine way we fundraise, which is highly regulated.”
She added that anyone who signed up could cancel their donation if they wished.
Miscommunication
The charity also apologised to the Breast Cancer Now Volunteering in the Isle of Man Group, which has raised over £2 million locally.
Ms Franklin admitted the group was not informed about the campaign due to a “miscommunication between teams”.
“We are personally sorry for this, as I know the whole Group give so much of their time and energy to support Breast Cancer Now,” she said.
Ms Franklin confirmed the face-to-face fundraisers would no longer operate on the island.
The charity thanked the community for its support, emphasising that donations fund “world-class research” to improve breast cancer treatment.
