Julie Stokes has been awarded an MBE in the King’s 2026 New Year Honours for outstanding services to cancer patients on the Isle of Man.
Mrs Stokes founded the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group (MBCSG) following her own diagnosis, mobilising volunteers and clinicians to support patients.
Her leadership led the charity to fundraise £1.5 million for a new Breast Unit at Noble’s Hospital in 2012, followed by a further £3.5 million campaign for major upgrades including a refurbished Scanner Suite.
Her work has been pivotal in shaping patient-centred services.
She helped establish the wider Mannin Cancer Support Group and was instrumental in creating a cancer service user forum, described as “a key voice in shaping policy and services”.
Mrs Stokes is also central to the new £1.5 million Cancer Support and Information Centre at Noble’s Hospital, which will formally open in the New Year.
The citation notes her “inspirational leadership and transformative impact,” ensuring patients are at the heart of cancer care on the island,
