The Chief Minister visited Collins Aerospace in Kilkeel as part of his wider engagements during the British-Irish Council Summit.
Of course the island has no regular air links with Northern Ireland, but there will be some Christmas flights in the winter.
Reflecting on the factory tour, the Chief Minister said: “Through our involvement in the UK-Isle of Man All Party Parliamentary Group, the Chair suggested a visit to Collins Aerospace.
“There have long been strong links between the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland, especially in relation to aerospace manufacturing, and Collins Aerospace, who manufacture seats for use in commercial aircraft, hosted me yesterday for what was a fascinating visit.”
He highlighted the sector’s shared heritage, stating: “Not only are we close geographically, but I know that there are strong historic links in terms of aerospace, going back to Shorts, and to Martin Baker, and up to date with RLC Manufacturing today.
“We’ve had a good discussion today, and we have come away with some ideas about how we can maybe look to develop those ties further.”
