A community effort from the people of Ramsey has raised £5000 for the specialist provisions centre at Bunscoill Rhumsaa.
Jamie Brew and Josh Edge recently ran Amsterdam half marathon to help raise money for the centre.
Jamie Brew and his partner Amy recognised the “hard work” that the staff at the centre put into work, but also recognised how little funding the service is given.
Amy said: “The staff in the three classes of the SPC, one of which my little brother Toby is apart of, are honestly amazing and really care about the children they look after through the day and I just wanted to help them any way I could.”
Jamie is no stranger to fundraising, having previously participated in running events and organising local community to raise money for Hospice and for Alder Hay.
Great Opportunity
Amy said: “When Jamie spotted the Amsterdam half marathon and decided he wanted to go I thought it was a great opportunity to raise money for a really worthy cause!”
The pair managed to rope in Jamie’s best friend Josh who had previously worked within the schools and had seen small glimpse of what difference the money could make.
Josh, Jamie and Amy then started a just giving page to kick things off, not long after they organised a fundraiser night at Cooil bar in Ramsey.
They reached out to many businesses for raffle prizes and any sort of donations, Amy said “the generosity was overwhelming”.
From the first fundraiser over £1000 was raised.
Community Fundraising
The community then got further involved with the fundraising, with eight-year-old Georgie Simpson who completed the mini parish walk and raised £120 and decided to donate it to the efforts.
Sarah Darnhill who also works in the SPC and managed to raise £326 doing her own half marathon to keep the total growing.
A sponsorship form at Ramsey fishmongers Kermellys, raised £149 and a charity bucket in The Swan added £92.
Martyn Murphy and Youthie footie club kindly assisted by auctioning of a signed Wayne Rooney portrait which went for £270.
Josh, who works at the DoI, got his colleagues involved who all joined in the fun and between sponsorship forms and bake sales they managed to raise an impressive £550.
With most of the fundraising done it was time to get the main part started and that was the Amsterdam half Marathon.
The Ramsey lads smashed it and were really proud of themselves for getting to that finish line.
On their return they were told the total raised from the Bunscoill Rhumsaa dress down day was £360 which took the total up to £4855.
Generous Donation
With a last minute generous donation of £145 from the lads football club, Ramsey Youthie Old Boys, the final hand over total to £5000.
Amy said: “We are so happy we managed to raise so much money and cannot express how grateful we are for everyone’s help, time effort and donations!
“We are excited to see what the money raised can do for the amazing children of Bunscoill Rhumsaa Specialist Provision Centre.”
