The Steam Packet has provided more details about what led to Manannan’s latest issues.
During her Thursday crossing to Liverpool, one of the vessel’s generators disconnected from the electrical switchboards, prompting a return to Douglas to allow passengers to transfer to the Manxman for Heysham.
Initial indications pointed to a generator fault, but engineers later identified multiple failed components in the switchboard’s safety and control circuits.
The company said: “The fault finding was carried out methodically and with professionalism and as quickly as possible, taking account of the dangers of working with high voltages and large currents associated with vessel’s electrical generation.
“Some of the work had to be carried out with no electrical power for safety reasons and just battery lighting.”
Affected passengers were offered free rebooking or refunds, with coach transfers provided.
