The Manx football season is only two games in but could Ayre’s point at Peel on Tuesday night already prove vital.
Last season’s winners were pegged back by the tangerines in an enthralling 3-3 draw at Dougas Road while Corinthians swept Braddan aside in decisive fashion.
After Aaron Costain and Golden Boot favourite Tommy Brown had the reigning champions ahead 2-0 before Jed Fisher pulled one back before an own goal had the game level with just over 20 to play.
With just five minutes remaining Brown struck again, this time from the spot, to give Peel a late lead.
There would however be one final twist as Chris Curtis’ late header snatched a point.
Double Trouble
If anyone was of any doubt of the firepower at Corinthians’ disposal this season, Tuesday’s game at Braddan ended that as Sean Doyle and Luke Murray scored a hat trick each.
Morgan Naylor and Josh Ridings got the other two with Nathan Robinson and a Mark O’Neil brace coming in reply from the Swans.
Joining Corinthians on maximum points are Laxey and Rushen after wins over St Mary’s and Foxdale respectively.
Johnny Palmer’s Miners beat Mary’s thanks to goals from summer signing Ed Kangah, sub Jack Keelan and a late third from Joe Walters, sadly I don’t have the Mary’s scorers.
The Spaniards beat Foxdale 1-4 at Billy Goat Park with goals from Jamie Cadwallader, Mikey Williams and two from Jordan Watterson, Casey McDonald scored for the home side.
Elsewhere, Old Boys continue to search for a first point after returning to the top flight after losing 0-2 at home to Ramsey thanks to goal from Phil Dunnigan and Graham Kennish.
Onchan and St John’s also played out an entertaining 2-2 draw as Tom Creer and Liam Sayle scored two each.
