Proposed EV charging points at Ronaldsway have a current estimated cost of £415,000.
Manx Utilities’ application aims to repurpose existing parking bays for commercial hire cars into a multi-use EV charging facility.
The project includes a solar canopy to power the rapid charging units and will create six additional public charging bays.
Manx Utilities chairman John Wannenburgh MHK revealed the figure in a written answer, saying a funding request has been submitted to the Climate Change Transformation Board.
In his answer, Mr Wannenburgh said: “Manx Utilities is proposing to install a new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging facility at Ronaldsway Airport, supporting the island’s statutory Climate Change Plan 2022-2027 and the transition to low-carbon transport.”
He outlined the need for the project, adding: “With over 1,600 registered electric vehicles on the island and only four rapid charging points currently available, there is a clear need to expand the network to meet growing demand.”
