Council to Hold Summerland Memorial Service

Douglas City Council will hold its annual memorial service this weekend to mark the anniversary of the Summerland fire.

The gathering takes place tomorrow (August 2) at the Kaye Memorial Garden on Queen’s Promenade, starting at 6.45pm.

Mayor Councillor Steven Crellin JP will welcome attendees before a short service led by the Mayor’s Chaplain, the Rev Michael Brydon. Members of the public are invited to attend and are asked to arrive by 6.35pm.

Following the service, His Worship will lay a wreath on behalf of the Council, with organisations, families and individuals then invited to place their own tributes.

Council Leader Devon Watson said the annual memorial remains an important moment for the community to honour those who died and acknowledge the lasting impact on survivors, families and the wider Island.
