Cowell to Stand in Ramsey

Robert Cowell has announced he will stand for the House of Keys in Ramsey, saying his decision is driven by a belief that the Isle of Man “should be thriving” and that Ramsey must be central to that ambition.

Cowell, whose family has lived and worked in the town for generations, says Ramsey is his home and the place where he has built businesses, created jobs, served the community and is now raising his children.

He says that experience has shaped his understanding of what the town, and the island, needs.

He points to his year as Chairman of Ramsey Town Commissioners in 2024/25 as a key part of his preparation for national politics, giving him first‑hand insight into both the opportunities and frustrations within public life.

He says he entered local government to understand how decisions are made and how change can genuinely be delivered.

Cowell argues that the Isle of Man has “talented people, strong communities and enormous potential”, but that progress is too often slowed by bureaucracy and a culture of hesitation.

He says the island can be more ambitious, more competitive and more confident in its future.

Juan McGuinness and Lawrie Hooper have also announced their intentions to stand in Ramsey.

Charlie Morrey is a Broadcast & Multi Media Journalist for Manx.News and also is a Presenter on Energy FM. Charlie has previously written for Isle of Man Newspapers, magazines and also started her broadcasting career with Manx Radio.
