Isle of Man Creamery has said that a report incidence of Blue tongue antibodies being found in cows on the island poses no risk to the public.
The island’s chief vet confirmed antibodies were identified in a herd of cattle on the island in tests yesterday.
In a Facebook post, the Creamery said: “We want to reassure our customers that BTV poses no risk to the public or food safety.
“The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is closely monitoring the situation and further testing and investigations are currently being undertaken to help protect the welfare of livestock on the island.”
The Manx National Farmers Union has also reassured farmers and trading partners that livestock trade can continue safely amid a confirmed blue tongue case on island.
As a precaution, an all-island Bluetongue Restriction Zone has been put in place.
