Isle of Man voice actor and performer Peter Wicks has won two awards at the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences (SOVAS) Awards in Los Angeles.
The ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 18, is widely regarded as the leading international awards event for voice artists.
This year’s nominees included major names such as Matthew McConaughey, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Stephen Fry and Martin Sheen.
International Awards
Mr Wicks won Outstanding Audiobook Narration for Humour for his work on High Vaultage by Chris and Jen Sugden, a Sunday Times bestseller, and Outstanding Video Game Character for his performance in Among Ashes.
He was also shortlisted in two further categories for audio drama and commercial voiceover work.
All of Mr Wicks’ nominated performances were recorded from his home studio in Ramsey.
Speaking after the awards, Peter said: “‘It’s bonkers, really, and I’m still not quite sure how to process it! I’m so thrilled to have received these awards, especially for two projects I feel incredibly lucky just to have been a small part of.
“More than anything, I’m proud to be able to produce the vast majority of my work right here on the Isle of Man. From school through to performing at treasured venues like the Gaiety Theatre and Erin Arts Centre, it was this place (and the people here) that made becoming an actor feel like a real possibility.
“Creating performers is something the Island does particularly well, and it’s entirely down to the accessibility of those spaces and local support for the arts.”
Mr Wicks has worked across audiobooks, audio drama and video games, including roles in Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, World of Tanks and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.
He has also appeared on stage and television and is a BAFTA Connect member.
