The planned road closure on Peel Promenade for sewage and pump station upgrades has been rescheduled following engagement with local businesses.
Manx Utilities Authority (MUA) Chairman John Wannenburgh MHK announced a revised programme that will see the works split into two phases to reduce disruption.
“The refurbishment element will begin in February under traffic light control, while the phase that requires a full road closure will now be scheduled for the autumn,” said Mr Wannenburgh.
“This approach avoids the busiest trading periods and reduces the impact on local businesses.”
The change follows criticism from MHK Kate Lord-Brennan, who questioned the depth of the initial business consultation.
She asked that going forward whether the MUA “when they say they’re engaging with business that they actually do so meaningfully?”
Mr Wannenburgh replied: “I’m happy to take that feedback on board. It does conflict slightly with what I have been told with the officers. I will follow that up.”
