Simcocks Advocates has announced King William’s College student Daisy Maddocks as the winner of its ninth Partnership with Schools essay competition.
The annual contest, aimed at encouraging sixth‑formers with an interest in law, invited A‑level and Baccalaureate students to submit a 1,000‑word essay on one of two topics: freedom of speech in the internet age, or whether the Manx legal system is doing enough to protect victims of domestic abuse.
Simcocks’ trainee advocates delivered seminars at Ballakermeen High School and King William’s College, and presented to students at Ramsey Grammar School, St Ninian’s and Castle Rushen before entries were submitted.
Daisy’s winning essay, described as a sophisticated examination of domestic‑abuse legislation, earned her a £500 prize, presented by Simcocks CEO Phil Games, who visited the College to hear about her plans to study law at university next year.
Phil said it was “heartening” to meet young people considering a legal career, adding that today’s students would become “the thought leaders in the coming decades.”
