Castletown Golf Club vice‑captain Dan Williams is taking on a major endurance challenge this month, swimming 3,000 lengths of the NSC pool throughout June to raise money for Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation and Isle Listen.
Dan, who was diagnosed 15 years ago with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), is completing 100 lengths a day.
A midweek setback, an earache that forced him to stop at 64 lengths, briefly slowed progress, but he is now back on track using ear plugs and a swim cap.
After 12 days, he has already completed 1,230 lengths and reached 47% of his £3,000 fundraising target on his JustGiving page.
Dan says the challenge marks the 15‑year anniversary of his diagnosis and aims to raise awareness of both heart health and the emotional impact of living with a long‑term condition. He credits Manx Care, new cardiac‑monitoring technology, and strong support from family and friends for helping him continue to live an active, fulfilling life.
He is also fundraising for Isle Listen to highlight the mental‑health pressures that can follow a serious diagnosis, saying the charity’s support for local people is “invaluable”.
Dan will continue swimming daily until the end of June, covering 75km in total.
