The Information Commissioner has completed a review into the registration requirements for users of video doorbells and domestic CCTV.
That update follows questions in the House of Keys from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.
Minister for the Cabinet Office David Ashford advised the House that individuals operating domestic CCTV are only subject to data protection law if the camera view extends beyond their property boundary.
He said: “Most of the people who contact the Information Commissioner about their cameras have taken advice on how to restrict the view with privacy filters so that it stays within their boundary.”
Where the view cannot be restricted, users must register as a data controller, currently costing £70. The Commissioner has undertaken a wider fees review, with a public consultation closing on 1 December.
“The commissioner is currently reviewing feedback, including for those using domestic CCTV, and will provide a full response in due course in the new year,” Mr Ashford said.
