DoI May Close Track to Vehicles

The DoI says it will consider restricting vehicle access to the Scarlett Visitor Centre.

This comes after it rejected a £58,000 proposal to asphalt the track.

Responding to Jason Moorhouse’s written question, Minister Dr Michelle Haywood also said she would not be releasing any recent risk assessments relating to the sea wall despite concerns over standing water on the road.

Dr Haywood stated: “The department undertakes hundreds of assessments every year and does not have the resources to make specific information available.”

She confirmed the sea wall was inspected in 2023, when “deterioration in pointing work was identified and subsequently corrective work was carried out”.

Unlikely

On the impact of water on the road, the Department said: “It is considered unlikely that any water would have a deleterious impact on the wall structure.”

The Minister added that “discussions are underway to identify a cost effect solution to roadway repairs which may include restricting vehicle access in the future”.
