Douglas Bounce Back to Beat Burnage

Douglas have secured their first win of the National 2 North West season, beating visiting Burnage RFC 69-26 at Port-e-Chee.

After tasting defeat in their opening two games of the season, Phil Cringle’s side were desperate to make a return to winning ways. Burnage, on the other hand, came into the fixture off the back of a win against Winnington Park, and looked to provide a stern test for the Manxmen.

As the game began to take shape, it became clear that Douglas were a class apart from their opponents. By full time, the scoreline indicated a demolition job.

An emphatic hat trick of tries from Sam McCord marked the pick of the performances for the home side. Oli Corkish bagged himself a brace, and there were solo scores from Harry Cartwright, Wilf Kermode, Owen Carvin, Josh Campbell and Craig Martin.

Matty Wood was exceptional from the tee, converting eight out of ten kicks and adding a penalty for good measure.

The win lifts Douglas to sixth, just three points adrift of table-topping Sandbach, and the men in maroon can now enjoy a week off before their trip to basement battlers Winnington Park on October 17.
