Recent traffic data has revealed the speeding records on roads in Douglas and Onchan.
Tynwald heard that some vehicles had been clocked by Police travelling at over 80mph
The highest speeds were recorded at 81mph on Peel Road in Douglas and 84mph on White Bridge Road entering Onchan.
Despite this, the average speed across both areas was found to be 24.6mph during the day and overnight, with the lowest speeds recorded at 8-9mph in Douglas city centre during peak times.

DoI Minister Dr Michelle Haywood told Tynwald: “In 2023 and 2024 there were a total of eight recorded injury collisions, four serious and four slight in Douglas and Onchan, where a contributory factor was excessive speed, as recorded by the Isle of Man Constabulary.
“Introduction of a lower speed limit will help improve quality of life by making streets more enjoyable places to spend time, encouraging more people to walk and cycle, improving health and wellbeing, as well as reducing vehicle pollution and reducing fuel consumption because of the lack of stop start driving.
“However, it is not a primary purpose of introducing that speed limit, but casualty reduction benefits may result from it.”
Dr Haywood also revealed that the average speed along White Bridge Road is 33.3mph, while Peel Road sees an average speed of 34mph.
The Department has committed to monitoring the impact of the new speed limits, focusing on reducing high speeds and improving safety.
However, concerns remain about the enforcement and long-term effectiveness of the measures.
