Michael Dunlop made yet more TT history on Tuesday evening, securing his 48th podium with victory in the Metzeler Supertwin race.
In doing so he broke John McGuinness MBE’s long-standing record of 47.
Riding his MD Racing Paton, Dunlop set a blistering fastest lap of 122.610mph to finish 22.6 seconds ahead of Manxman Michael Evans (Dafabet Racing Kawasaki), with Rob Hodson (SMT Racing Paton) claiming third—marking both Evans and Hodson’s first TT podiums.
The race, delayed until 7:45 p.m. due to damp morning conditions, was shortened to two laps with Dunlop quickly taking charge at Glen Helen on Lap 1, building a 2.2-second lead over Evans.
By Ramsey, Dunlop’s advantage grew to 9.3 seconds, with Evans holding second and Davey Todd (Milenco by Padgett’s Paton) in third. However, Hodson surged ahead of Todd on the final lap, securing his podium spot by just 1.7 seconds over a fast-closing Jordan.
Dunlop said: “It’s special to get the record, but the win’s what matters. The bike was flawless.”
