Ramsey Town Commissioners have unveiled the latest addition to the Mooragh Park Shelter Art Project—a vibrant mural by local artist Ellie, known as Sketches from My Bedroom.
This marks the fourth shelter transformed in a ten-shelter initiative to enhance public spaces and celebrate Ramsey’s identity.
Located in the park’s children’s play area, the new mural features an artistic map of Ramsey, highlighting key landmarks in a playful, engaging style.
Honour
Artist Ellie said: “It was an honour to be involved in such an incredible project, particularly in the town I call ‘home’.
“I pride myself on putting a piece of my heart into everything I do, and I try to tell stories through my art. Being part of telling Ramsey’s story was truly special.”
Having started my journey of taking commissions and making prints of my work literally from my bedroom, it is honestly unbelievable to me that I was given an opportunity as exciting as this.
“Hopefully the landmarks on my map hold special memories for you and your family, and my drawings will help immortalise some of those warm, fuzzy feelings we’ve all had in this town.”
Creative
The project was fully funded by Dark Burn Creative.
Geoff Court of Dark Burn Creative said, “Ellie has created a truly extraordinary mural that both celebrates and represents Ramsey in an engaging, accessible and highly imaginative way.
“The work of Sketches from my Bedroom is a gift to Mooragh Park and all its visitors. Dark Burn Creative are honoured to support this contribution to the evolving catalogue of inspirational public art on display in Ramsey.”
Commissioner Juan McGuinness, who initiated the project, said, “I’m a huge believer in publicly available art.
“Ellie’s mural is a brilliant design that brings the town to life — it highlights local landmarks in a way that’s both beautiful and engaging. I hope it brings enjoyment and a sense of place to everyone who sees it.
The Isle of Man is lucky to have so many talented artists, and it’s vital that we create opportunities like this to showcase their work and inspire the next generation. I hope it continues to build Ramsey’s reputation as the art and culture jewel in the island’s crown.
Six more shelters will be painted by different artists in the coming months, each offering a unique take on Ramsey’s story.
