Summerhill has been closed to through traffic from the Promenade to Strathallan Road.
The closure has been granted to allow Manx Utilities to deal with a fault in the electrical supply system.
The DoI said it has been granted until 4pm on Friday January 31.
Manx Utilities earlier said some properties in the area may be off supply for an extended period into the evening due to difficulties in locating and repairing the fault.
