Shortly after 2pm yesterday (June 29), emergency services were called to a person who had fallen and injured themselves just below the summit of Snaefell.
Douglas Coastguard’s were called to work alongside Isle of Man Fire and Rescue and Isle of Man Ambulance in a joint operation to locate and recover the injured person who had fallen.
The casualty was on the side of Snaefell just down from the summit in thick mist and drizzle.
Douglas Coastguards aided in locating the person as they were able to send a What3words location.
Snaefell Mountain Railway
The Coastguards said that in order to get to the casualty, the Marine Operations Centre was able to get in touch with the Snaefell Mountain Railway and commandeer a tram on route to the Summit with passengers.
This enabled transfer of all rescue personnel and equipment to a location close to where they thought the casualty was.
The emergency service say it then conducted a line abreast search down from the railway line until they located the casualty.
Once located, the paramedics were able to assess and treat the casualty.
The teams were then able to work together to recover the casualty back to the tram, which by this time had been able to drop its passengers off and come back for them to assist in transfer back to the waiting ambulance at the Bungalow train station.
Douglas Coastguards thank the tram staff and Station Master who between them assisted the service to a successful outcome.
