Travellers are now banned from bringing meat and cheese back from Europe to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth.
The ban includes airport sandwiches and duty-free purchases.
Our government has followed suit with the UK in a bid to protect the Manx agricultural industry from the potentially devastating disease.
It means travellers will no longer be able to bring cattle, sheep, goat, and pig meat, as well as, dairy products, from EU and European Economic Area (EEA) countries into Great Britain, or the Isle of Man, for personal use.
The move follows recent outbreaks in several European countries including Germany, Slovakia and Hungary.
There are currently no cases of foot-and-mouth in the British Isles and these measures will continue to protect the health of livestock, the security of farmers and the island’s food security.
Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Amy Beckett said: “These enhanced restrictions are a crucial step in protecting our agricultural industry.
“I would urge livestock keepers to exercise the utmost vigilance for signs of disease, follow strict biosecurity measures, and report any suspicions to DEFA immediately.”
