Noble’s Hospital offers extensive training opportunities for doctors, including those in training posts and experienced practitioners, the Health Minister has said.
Responding to a written question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge, Claire Christian detailed the support available for doctors of all levels.
“Doctors in training posts are allocated to the Isle of Man and overseen by the North West Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education department,” she said.
These doctors receive guidance from senior clinicians and multidisciplinary teams, alongside access to the Keyll Darree Education Centre on-site.
Plans
For all doctors, annual appraisals ensure personalised Professional Development Plans.
“Every doctor is required to take part in an annual appraisal that includes the agreement of their Professional Development Plan for the next year,” Mrs Christian stated.
Training includes mandatory courses such as CPR and Safeguarding, as well as departmental meetings and clinical audits.
Consultants and Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors benefit from dedicated training time.
“Each consultant has specific paid time within their contract (for most consultants this is 10 hours per week) for teaching, medical education, and professional development,” the Minister added.
