Feedback Sought on Legal Aid ‘improvements’

Feedback is being sought on proposals aimed at accommodating recommendations published in a review of Legal Aid.

A six-week consultation process has been launched by the Treasury, in partnership with the Legal Aid Committee.

Published in 2021, the Legal Aid Review made 32 recommendations to help improve Legal Aid services.

A steering group was set up to examine the proposals and work with relevant stakeholders.

Proposed changes to the Legal Aid Act have now been established to help bring about many of these recommendations.

Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson MHK said: “I am pleased to present this consultation, which seeks the views of our community on amendments that are aimed at improving the provision of Legal Aid.

“I especially wish to encourage the further participation of key stakeholders who may be professionally impacted by the proposals, and the Treasury will be writing to organisations directly to request their responses.”

The consultation document is available to view and complete on the Isle of Man Government consultation hub by visiting consult.gov.im

The process will run for six weeks and conclude on Monday, December 22.
