Fire crews called after cat turns on hob

A cat is to blame for fire crews from Peel and Douglas being called to a structure fire during yesterdays (May 27) TT practice session.

Upon arrival the property was found to be heavily smoke logged with no obvious fire. Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to isolate the services and investigate.

After clearing the smoke it was apparent that an item had been left on a hob which the fire service believes may have been switched on by a ‘wandering house cat’.

Station Officer David Cowley says that, ‘thankfully the damage was minimal as the fire had burnt itself out’.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has said that ‘due to the roads being closed at the time of the incident it was very difficult for crews to make progress to the scene’.

It would like to remind drivers not to panic when they see and hear our vehicles approaching and to pull over in a safe position.
