Southern 100 organisers have added their tribute to Ian Lougher after his retirement from road racing.
The Welshman amassed an incredible 40 race victories at the Billown course, a record that stands unequalled.
His wins include five coveted Solo Championship titles, secured in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008.
Lougher first competed at the Southern 100 in 1983, taking a tenth-place finish. His first victory came four years later in the 1987 Solo Founders Race. His final win was in the 2013 Ultra Lightweight 125cc race.
Success
His success extended to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Post TT Road Races, where he claimed 12 wins. These included Lightweight and Ultra Lightweight TT victories in 2008 and 2009.
Organisers said: “Ian Lougher’s contribution to the Southern 100 and the wider road racing community is immeasurable.
“His consistency, professionalism and sportsmanship have set a standard for future generations to follow.”
