An email from Southern Swimming Pool manager, Oliver Cowan, states that a recommendation has been made for the facility to close from March 31, 2024.
According to the email ‘the decision has been made purely on financial grounds’.
The email follows a recent meeting between the board of the pool, Department of Education, Sports and Culture (DESC) Minister Julie Edge and Chief Executive Graham Kinrade.

The email to board members from the pool manager is as follows:
“Following a recent meeting held this morning, the board, the Minister of DESC and the chief executive of the department, we were informed of the recommendation that will be taken forward to the Tynwald sitting on the 17th of February.
“The recommendation would be that the Southern Swimming Pool closes from 31st of March 2024.
“I would like to reiterate that this is a recommendation on behalf of the department. The decision will be voted on during the sitting, and is subject to Tynwald approval.
“This is not notice of closure, this is purely to inform you of the process and recommendation made by DESC today.
“The department have stated that the decision has been made purely on financial grounds.”
