St Georges came from behind to beat 10-man Union Mills on Saturday as they claimed their second win of the season.
Mills took the lead early in the first half as Tyler Hughes was slid in behind the Geordies’ defence, he knocked it past Ben Wilkinson and squared it to Dominic McHarrie-Brennan, who slotted home, 0-1.
The home side then had Wilkinson to thank for keeping them in the game as he made an impressive stop, tipping a free kick onto the post, to keep the game at 0-1.
Wilkinson was repeatedly called into action to stop first Jordan Crawyley and then Hughes, before Johnny Myers headed one off the line.
Matthew Milligan should have made it 0-2 when Wilkinson could only spill a save out in front of him, but he somehow hit the post.
Geordies, determined to play out from the back, finally managed to break through the Mills’ press, a good team move saw Ciaran ‘Pecker’ McNulty draw a quality save from Mason Prince.
On the stroke of half-time, Pecker was played in, despite big appeals for off-side, and when Prince blocked his shot with his hand outside the box, referee Stu Morries was left with no option but to send the Mills keeper off.
That sending off proved decisive as Geordies controlled much of the second half, quickly drawing level when Ed Kangah pounced on a bad goal kick to get the goal his endeavours had deserved, 1-1.
Despite replacement keeper Alex Higerty making a couple of good saves, he could do nothing to stop Michael Hughes effort which sailed into the top corner, 2-1.
Pecker would wrap up the three points soon after as Kangah was played in down the Geordies’ right, his driven low cross picked out the striker who slotted home to make it 3-1.
That win leaves Geordies third bottom, above Onchan and rockbottom Marown.

Elsewhere in the league, Peel lost ground on Ayre, who beat Foxdale 4-2, the westerners were beaten 1-2 at home by Corinthians thanks to two Joao Marques goals which lifted the whites up into second.

Elsewhere, Rushen won a back and forth affair against Onchan, while in Div2 the result of the day was Malew 4-4 Michael while DHOSB kept up the pressure on leader Braddan by winning 8-2 at home against Castletown.
