The Department of Infrastructure is advising the public to stock up on road salt if required as adverse weather conditions are expected this weekend.
We will be graced with temperatures of -2C on Friday (January 2), with the risk of wintry showers, these possibly quite frequent and heavy in places.
The wind will be back with a vengeance with gusts of up to 40mph in places.
It will continuing cold with sunny and clear intervals as the wintry showers tend to become isolated on Saturday (January 3).
There will be a risk of ice, and also accumulations from wintry showers, especially upland roads.

Salt Spreading
The DoI explains that when spreading salt, “a little goes a long way”.
It says that around 20-40 grams of salt per square meter is typically sufficient.
A coffee mug full of salt is enough to cover about 10 standard footpath concrete slabs.
