An 80-year-old Ramsey man recently completed a 5km sponsored swim and raised a phenomenal £6,300 for Hospice Isle of Man.
Barrie Johnson swam an incredible 200 lengths of the Northern Pool in memory of his late wife, Muriel.
He took on this challenge in memory of Muriel, who was cared for at Hospice in November 2024.
All of Barrie’s dedication, training and preparation paid off as he completed his swim in just 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Barrie shared that he was spurred on by the amazing encouragement of his family, friends, neighbours, fellow swimmers and Ramsey Choir members, he said:
“Afterwards, apart from aching shoulders, I felt absolutely fine, which was a surprise. Certainly, I didn’t feel eighty!”
