A planning application has been submitted to create a small glamping site on land off Kella Road in Sulby.
The proposal seeks to install three shepherd’s huts, one potentially substituted with a bell tent, along with new storage buildings and an expanded parking area.
Applicants Gary and Kristen Preston, who own the land, aim to “accommodate local couples and families as well as attract visitors from further afield to encourage tourism in the northern areas of the island.”
They plan to use solar power and enhance biodiversity with wildflower planting.
The planning application acknowledges the site is in an undesignated area where development is generally restricted.
However, it concludes the “removable” nature of the glamping units and the site’s low ecological value mean the proposal would support economic strategy without harming the countryside.
