The Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer has paid a visit to Falkland Islands Spirits to learn about the luxury gin brand.
The company produces Tumbledown Gin, distilled in the Falklands and bottled at Tromode before being sold in the Isle of Man and UK.
John Hellowell, MD of Falkland Islands Spirits, said: “It was a privilege to welcome His Excellency, and a pleasure to hear about his interest in our business.
“Sir John is very knowledgeable about the Falkland Islands, and of course is aware of the strong connection the islanders have with the British armed forces which is part of our backstory too.”
Flavour
The gin’s origins trace back to Taff Davies, a former soldier who began small-scale distilling for locals. Its quality and unique flavour quickly gained popularity among the Falklands’ 3,000 residents.
Mr Hellowell, an Isle of Man businessman then based in the Falklands, recognised its potential in wider markets.
Named after Mount Tumbledown, a pivotal site in the Falklands War, the brand holds historical significance.
Sir John, who served in the Parachute Regiment and later commanded 3 PARA, shared his own memories of the islands.
He continues supporting the armed forces as Honorary Colonel of the Isle of Man Cadet Force and Chair of the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Charity.
