Sir John Lorimer has presented 27 members of Civil Defence with the King’s Coronation Medal at a ceremony at Government House.
The Governor presented several individual awards which celebrate the volunteers for their work throughout the year.
During the evening, Sir John presented Caroline Roriston, Andrew Quirk, John Hill and Linda Gilpin with long service medal while Norman McBride received a second bar to his long service medal for 39 year’s volunteering.
Government House said: “His Excellency commended the corps on the fantastic work that they do in keeping our islanders safe and providing essential support in times of emergency.
“Well done and thanks to all!”
The Civil Defence Medal (CDM) is a long service award instituted by Queen Elizabeth II in March 1961 and awarded for 15 years continuous service in a variety of different organisations including the Civil Defence Corps, and previously Auxiliary Fire Service, the National Hospital Service Reserve and the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation.
With most of the eligible organisations disbanded, the medal is currently only awarded to civil defence volunteers on the Isle of Man.
